About
About this project
The Southeast Asian Table is an independently published cookbook covering the eleven countries of Southeast Asia. This site is its companion.
What the book is
Southeast Asia is not one cuisine. It is eleven national tables that share ingredients, trade routes and centuries of movement, and that stay distinct in the ways that matter most at the table — in what is cooked, how it is seasoned, and who eats it with whom.
The book covers all eleven: Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei and Timor-Leste. The recipes are distributed so that the smaller cuisines are represented meaningfully rather than as a courtesy — Brunei and Timor-Leste carry three each, researched with the same care as Thailand’s fifteen.
Scope
- 11country chapters
- 100recipes
- 27pantry studies
- 24foundation components
The book opens where the cooking actually begins: a foundations chapter of twenty-four sauces, sambals, pastes and condiments, preceded by twenty-seven studies of the ingredients those components are built from. Learn those, and a hundred recipes across eleven countries stop feeling like a hundred separate lessons.
Each recipe carries the context that makes it legible: its name in its own language and script alongside a romanisation, the region it belongs to, serving numbers and timings, and dietary and allergen notes describing the recipe as written.
What it is for
It is written for a cook who wants to know why a dish is the way it is, not only how to make it. That is the reason for the foundations chapter, for the regional attributions, and for saying when accounts of a dish’s origin conflict rather than choosing the more attractive story.
It is also the reason this site states plainly what has not been done yet. See how the book was made for the research and verification approach, and what remains provisional.
The book and this site
This website is a companion to the book, not a replacement for it. It carries the full recipe index, a page for each of the hundred recipes, the eleven country chapters, and all fifty-one foundations entries.
The book carries what a website cannot: the headnotes, the chapter essays, the regional menus, the front and back matter, and the whole thing in one designed, printed sequence. The site is a way to read the material and decide whether the book is for you.
Author and imprint
Thea Cin is the sole author, copyright holder and independent publisher of The Southeast Asian Table. The book is independently, author-published; all rights in the work are retained by the author.
The book carries the CinNova Pressimprint on its cover, spine and title page. On Amazon the publisher of record will read “Independently published”, which is set automatically by the free KDP ISBN and is not editable — both statements are accurate and describe different things.
No biography beyond this is published here, because none is established in the project record. It is the author’s to write.
Publication status
Two editions have been prepared: a Kindle edition and a paperback.
In review with Amazon KDP
Both editions have been submitted to Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and are currently in review. Submitted prices are $9.99 for the kindle edition and $49.99 for the paperback. Neither is on sale yet, and prices are as submitted rather than final.
Buying links will appear once the listings are live.
This status was last confirmed with the author on . It is not inferred from elapsed time, and no purchase link appears anywhere on this site until a real listing exists.
